Abstract

Mathnavi_ e Manavi is one of the masterpieces of Persian literarure that can be studied from different dimensions. In most of the previous researches done on Mathnavi, the interpretation of the ( general, formal, mystic and theological) meanings of the verses has been presented and the grammatical properties of Mowlavis language have been rarely studied .In the present paper ,the common methods of word _ formation in Mathnavi have been analyzed .For doing that ,we encountered three significant questions: 1.Which word_ formation methods have been used by Mowlavi? 2.How much has he observed the word_ formation principles of persian?3.How has he dealt with non _ persian words? We will observe that Mowlavi has adopted a logical ,innovative and simple approach in dealing with non persian words and his ability in word _ formation has led him to express his thoughts without lexical limitations and this issue has made him one of the most successful Persian poets in this regard in a way that his special method in word_ formation has made his style dostinguished from other poets and it has become a stylistic property for him.
